Seedance 1.0 is ByteDance's first-generation Seedance video model, launched by Volcano Engine on June 11, 2025. It generates video from text or images at up to 1080p, and its signature trick was seamless multi-shot transitions — 2 to 3 shots inside a single 10-second clip, switching between wide, medium, and close-up for more coherent storytelling. It's the model the whole Seedance line grew from. If you're generating today, you'd use Seedance 2 — but here's what 1.0 was and where it sits.

What Seedance 1.0 does
Two inputs, one output: short video.
- Text-to-video and image-to-video at up to 1080p.
- Multi-shot transitions — its standout feature. A single generation could carry 2–3 shots in a 10-second clip, cutting between framings instead of one static take.
- Fast generation — ByteDance reported roughly 41 seconds to produce a 5-second clip, which is why it got attention for quick iteration.
The full technical report was published publicly by ByteDance, which is unusual transparency for a launch model.
The Seedance version lineage
Knowing the family explains why "Seedance 1.0" still gets searched:
- Seedance 1.0 — June 11, 2025. The original, plus Seedance 1.0 Pro released alongside it.
- Seedance 1.5 Pro — a later "sound and vision" release.
- Seedance 2.0 — February 12, 2026. The current generation; see What is Seedance 2.0.
- Seedance 1.0 Lite — May 13, 2026, a lightweight branch at 480p/720p for 5s or 10s clips.
- Seedance 2.1 — reported, not yet released; see Seedance 2.1 vs 2.0.
For the full timeline, see Seedance release dates.
Should you use Seedance 1.0 today?
For most new work, no — use Seedance 2. The 2.x generation is the current model and what this site runs. Seedance 1.0 matters now mainly for context: understanding the lineage, comparing capabilities, or if a tool you use still exposes the 1.0 family.
If you specifically want the lowest-cost, lightweight path today, that's Seedance 2 Fast, not the old 1.0 Lite.
